Application and Guidelines on Becoming a Friend of the National Palace Museum

Purpose |

As an academic and cultural institution, the National Palace Museum (hereafter also referred to as "Museum") has taken a leading role in promoting Chinese art and education. Moreover, the Museum welcomes all members of the community to join in fostering greater understanding of Chinese culture. It is with great pleasure that the National Palace Museum in Taiwan invites all those interested in promoting Chinese art and culture to the Friends of the National Palace Museum Program. Your sponsorship will not only help maintain the precious relics of Chinese culture for future generations to enjoy but will also bring Chinese art and culture closer to all communities in the world. |

Definition |
| |
1. |
A "Friend of the National Palace Museum" is identified by the "Friend of the National Palace Museum" card issued by the Museum or an affinity credit card issued mutually by the Museum and a cooperating financial institution. |

2. |
There are three levels of "Friends of the National Palace Museum". They are: "Honorary Friend", "Elite Friend", and "Select Friend". The "Honorary Friend of the National Palace Museum" card is issued as an honor by the Museum. Those who wish to become cardholders of the other two levels should review the relevant qualifications and make an application to the Museum. (Those who are affinity cardholders need not apply). |

Qualifications |
| |
1. |
Honorary Friend of the National Palace Museum |
| |
|
a. |
World-class artists or outstanding recognized members of the international community (such as Nobel laureates, Olympic gold, silver, and bronze medallists; at the discretion of and upon confirmation by the Museum). |
| |
|
b. |
Outstanding members of the literary and creative art world, scientists, and scholars (at the discretion of and upon confirmation by the Museum). |
| |
|
c. |
Those who donate cultural artifacts to the National Palace Museum, and after formal acceptance by the Museum. |
| |
|
d. |
Those who entrust artifacts to the National Palace Museum, and after formal acceptance by the Museum, also authorize the Museum to use such artifacts for research, exhibition, publication, and other derivative publications. |
| |
|
e. |
Those who give a single gift of NT$1,000,000 or more to the National Palace Museum's Collection Development Fund or accumulate a sum of NT$1,000,000 or more over the period of one year. |

2. |
Elite Friend of the National Palace Museum |
| |
|
a. |
Those who are a leader or deputy leader of a cultural institution, head of an institution of higher education, or a department head in the ROC. |
| |
|
b. |
Those who are first-prize recipients in the arts awarded by ministerial-level ROC government agencies. |
| |
|
c. |
Those who have received major domestic or international academic awards at the discretion of and confirmation by the Museum. |
| |
|
d. |
Those who are president or regional president of the Lions Club, Rotary Club, and Junior Chamber in the ROC. |
| |
|
e. |
Those among the top ten outstanding youth, citizens, and model dutiful individuals recognized by the ROC government. |
| |
|
f. |
Those who are chairperson of the top 200 major enterprises in Taiwan (upon confirmation). |
| |
|
g. |
Those who have won major awards in international competitions on behalf of the ROC, upon offering of proof and verification by the Museum. |
| |
|
h. |
Those who donate to the Museum's Collection Development Fund more than NT$100,000 and up to NT$1,000,000 at one time or accumulated over the period of one year. |
| |
3. |
Select Friend |
| |
|
a. |
Those who donate NT$10,000 or more, but less than NT$100,000, to the Museum's Collection Development Fund within one year can become a Lifetime Select Friend. |
| |
|
b. |
Those who hold an affinity credit card mutually issued in cooperation between the Museum and a financial institution. |
| |
|
c. |
Those who donate to the Museum's Collection Development Fund NT$1,000 can become an Annual Select Friend. |
| |
|
| D. |
To promote the recruitment of members for domestic museums as well as the "Friends of the National Palace Museum" program, the following benefits are offered to cardholding members of other Museum Friends: Those with a valid friendship card of a domestic ROC museum can apply to become an "Annual Select Friend of the National Palace Museum" at a 20% discount (NT$800 donation instead of NT$1,000) and have their membership automatically extended from one year to two years. |

a. |
Free admission to the Museum, except for any special exhibitions requiring separate admission. |
| |

b. |
Discount registration fee for various educational activities held by the Museum. |
| |
|
c. |
10% discount off the publications and souvenir items issued by the Museum. |
| |
|
d. |
Free regular mailings of the Museum's Newsletter. |
| |
|
e. |
10% discount off food and drink at the Museum. |
| |
2. |
Lifetime Select Friend of the National Palace Museum |
| |
|
a. |
All the benefits listed above for the Annual Select Friend of the National Palace Museum and the following three benefits: |

b. |
Upon presentation of card, other members accompanying the cardholder can enjoy discount admission price (maximum four tickets per day). |
| |
|
c. |
Complimentary souvenirs from the Museum. |
| |
|
d. |
Invitations to the opening receptions for special exhibitions and preview of exhibitions at the Museum. |

3. |
Elite Friend of the National Palace Museum |
| |
|
a. |
All of the benefits listed above for Annual and Lifetime Select Friends of the National Palace Museum and the following benefit: |

Upon presentation of card, the holder can enjoy a personal tour (with prior reservation). |
| |
4. |
Honorary Friend of the National Palace Museum |
| |
|
a. |
All of the benefits listed above and including the following benefit: |

b. |
Publications or reproductions by the National Palace Museum’s Collection Development Fund (at its discretion). |
| |
|
| F. |
The National Palace Museum reserves the right to alter or cancel any of the above benefits at its sole discretion. If any such changes are to take place, the Museum will post the changes to take place thirty calendar days in advance on its website. |

| G. |
Guidelines and Method for "Friends of the National Palace Museum" Card Replacement |
| |
|
1. |
If a cardholder has his or her card lost or stolen, it can be applied for replacement after signing an affidavit. |
| |
|
2. |
Then applying for a replacement, one must note "REPLACEMENT" on the application form. |
| |
|
3. |
All applications for replacement are subject to prior approval. |
| |
|
4. |
The annual card may be replaced only once, while the lifetime card cannot be replaced more than three times. The expiration date of the replacement card is the same as the one for the card that was lost. |
| |
|
5. |
The lost card will become invalid starting from the day that it was reported lost or stolen. If any infringement on the use of the lost card is discovered, it will be immediately confiscated and cut to invalidate it. |

|
6. |
A replacement card must be noted as a replacement, but the benefits are the same as those of the original card. |
| |
|
| H. |
Remitting Donation Funds |
| |
"Friends of the National Palace Museum" who wish to make a donation to the Museum's Collection Development Fund may contribute to the "NPM Collection Development Fund "故宮文物藝術發展基金" account at the Central Bank of Taiwan. The account number is 264045. Or one may also contribute to the "NPM Collection Development Fund "故宮文物藝術發展基金" account with the Chunghwa Post Office. The account number is 19606198. Please save your receipt as evidence of donation. |
