Taipei, Taiwan - August 14, 2009 - On July 30 of this year, the Cultural Foundation of the United Daily News Group on behalf of the National Palace Museum completed the signing of a formal agreement with the Beijing Palace Museum for the exhibition "Harmony and Integrity: Emperor Yongzheng and His Times." In doing so, the substantial cooperative exchange consensus between the National Palace Museum and the Beijing Palace Museum from March 2 of this year was fulfilled. On August 14, 2009, the National Palace Museum held a press conference to announce this event through a videoconference with the Beijing Palace Museum to jointly declare the official start to preparations for this exhibition.
"Harmony and Integrity: Emperor Yongzheng and His Times" is being organized jointly by the National Palace Museum and the Beijing Palace Museum, and the Cultural Foundation of the United Daily News Group is serving as a third-party institution to handle matters related to loans. For this important exhibition, the United Daily News Group and Phoenix Satellite Television will be the host media, and Yuanta Financial Holdings will be the major sponsor. The display is scheduled to feature 246 masterpieces, including 203 works from the National Palace Museum, 37 loan pieces from the Beijing Palace Museum, two from the Shanghai Museum, three from the Institute of History and Philology at Academia Sinica, and one from the collection of U.C. Pharmaceuticals. This exhibit at the National Palace Museum will thus provide a complete narrative of the life, administration, and achievements in art and culture of the Yongzheng Emperor.
"Harmony and Integrity: Emperor Yongzheng and His Times" will be divided into two major sections: "The Yongzheng Emperor" and "Art and Culture in the Yongzheng Reign." The first section describes the emperor at various stages in his life, while the other deals with the art and culture that flourished under his reign. A multimedia presentation will also feature the origins of stories concerning the Yongzheng Emperor in an effort to provide further clarification, thereby offering a more complete understanding of him.
"Harmony and Integrity: Emperor Yongzheng and His Times" will officially commence on October 7 of this year and conclude on January 10, 2010. Moreover, in light of the severity of the disaster brought by Typhoon Morakot in recent days, the entire staff of the National Palace Museum will donate their one-day income. In addition, all earnings from the National Palace Museum shops and restaurants on August 14 as well as 15% of the daily turnover from the shops during the period of the Yongzheng special exhibit(Oct.7, 2009-Jan.10, 2010) will be donated to typhoon disaster relief.
