Create the brand-new National Palace Museum Theater to provide NPM's New Melody, which suits the entire family

With its professional service, the National Palace Museum aims to create its new value based on its abundant collection, to head towards the goal of diversified management, to provide the audience a sense of aesthetics extension, and to promote people's art literacy and life quality. Following the "Saturday Night at NPM" and the "Night Revels at NPM", the NPM has presented the NPM's New Melody--a series of traditional dramas which combine the well-known paintings collected by the NPM and classical dramas, at the Performance Hall of the Auditorium at 2:30-4:00pm every Wednesday from July 8 to December 30. The first performance of the NPM's New Melody is the repertory performance of "The Emperor Ming-huang's Flight to Szechwan—the Palace of Eternal Youth" redesigned by Lanting Kun Opera Company. Combining "The Tang Dynasty painting Emperor Ming-huang's Flight to Szechwan" and "The Palace of Eternal Youth"--a classical Kunqu opera, this performance is the best interpretation of the image of "In the sky to be two birds flying wing to wing, on earth to be two trees with branches intertwined, wishing for conjugal bliss"--the masterpiece about the love between Emperor Ming-huang and Concubine Yang. Furthermore, the NPM will also provide a series of lectures to profoundly discuss the implication and value of the drama of the NPM's New Melody.

Famous for its abundant collection, the NPM has been a must-see tourism destination for both domestic and oversea tourists. In addition to the Performance Hall, Administrative Building and Library, the NPM also provides the Performance Hall at the Auditorium for studies and conferences. To make the best use of the NPM's resources and facilities, Kung-hsin Chou, the director of the NPM has been actively advocating the performance project of "The NPM's New Melody" traditional drama since she took up the post last May 20. Theater sound and light equipments were added to the Auditorium; moreover, with the strong of Delta Electronics Foundation, high-quality video and audio projectors and screens were set up according to the precise measurement and position installation based on the national theater scale to present a colorful image effect with detailed quality. Furthermore, multi-media display boards were fitted in the theater to allow subtitles and video broadcasts inside and outside of the theater to reach the sound and light effect of professional theaters, and to further lead the audience to profoundly understand the diversified aesthetics of the traditional Chinese art culture.

The first performance of the NPM's New Melody is the repertory performance of "The Emperor Ming-huang's Flight to Szechwan—the Palace of Eternal Youth" redesigned by Lanting Kun Opera Company. The following popular excerpts: "Love pledge and jewel box giving", "Secret pledge", "Surprising change", "Burying the beauty", and "Telling stories", "Grief over the time in a dream", and "Bath peeping" selected from the original work and "Summery" with the tune of [Springtime in Provincial Garden] as well as the greatest and essential part redesigned and recreated by Hui-mien Li, a professor at NTU, which lasts for 90 minutes, all increase the attractiveness of the drama. In the redesign process, in addition to the preservation of the music for voices and the beauty of postures in the original work, visual fittings combine cultural heritages and the theater are also injected to represent the art essence of "The Palace of Eternal Youth" in Kunqu.
