Introduction:

The Yüan dynasty was founded by the Mongols whose legendary empire stretched across Eurasia. Bands of artisans traveled along with the vast armies on conquests and expeditions. Consequently, artistic traditions of unique cultural dominions were exchanged within the empire.

This dynasty witnessed a clearly defined social hierarchy under the Mongol's highly centralized imperial power. Mongol rulers came to be known as the khans of the Golden horde. Nevertheless, they retained a wide array of traditional costumes, documents, decorative patterns and designs, including evidence of their own nomadic origins, when building their great empire.
