The Han dynasty was established in 206 BC and lasted for a total of 425
years. The stories and incidents from the history of this period--both actual and
mythological--were recorded in the form of calligraphed texts as well as painted and
engraved images. The works chosen for this exhibit reflect a large variety of subject
matter, ranging from a moral and instructional nature to the ideal models for those in
government. You'll find stories about the founder of the Han, about the virtue of
education, about the life of women at court, and about the dreams of long life. Though
they may not have achieved immortality, the works that portray them have--representing the
spectrum of Chinese life from 2,000 years ago.
