To promote open, transparent cultural information and cooperate with the government to improve creative development and services in order to extend the knowledge industry, the National Palace Museum (NPM) introduces the Open Data platform offering cultural and museum-related datasets that are available for download. In addition, the new platform provides guidelines concerning free, personal use of artifact images as well as descriptions on how to apply for authorization. The objective is not only to meet the public’s right to access information, but to achieve the goal of reusing public sector information in order to expand potential business opportunities for the cultural and creative industries in Taiwan.

Q:How do I obtain the artifact metadata image files available on the Open Data platform?

A:The datasets provided by the NPM for download on the Open Data platform are a metadata of artifacts; they are also descriptive artifact information. For users who are interested in obtaining some or all of the artifact images in the metadata datasets, they may use the artifact unicode or artifact title from the datasets and enter them in the “Taiwan e-Learning and Digital Archives Catalogue” on the Digital Taiwan Culture and Nature website to find the desired images. They may then “save” these images for subsequent use. Users will not be required to file an application in order to use these images, but they will need to comply with the NPM Open Data Terms of Use. For detailed information, please refer to the “Terms of Use” section in our section page.
