  • The National Palace Museum Visitors Notice

    Notice is effective Dec. 22, 2012

    1. The following visitors notice has been put in place by the National Palace Museum (NPM) to preserve and maintain the valued artifacts and visiting quality inside the Main Building exhibition halls.
    2. Groups of 10 or above are required to purchase group tickets for the exhibitions. All members of the group are also required to rent an audio touring system (audio headset) and be equipped prior to entering. As museum crowd control is in place, visitors are recommended to book the audio touring systems in advance.
    3. Visitors are suggested to adjust their visiting routes when running into crowded areas.
    4. At times of natural disasters (such as typhoons and earthquakes) resulting in subsequent announcement of cancelled workday(s), the Museum will also be closed; when deemed necessary, the Museum will close sections of areas during exhibition changes, renovation, construction, or major incidents.
    5. Photographs and/or video recordings may be taken exhibition halls as long as no auxiliary equipment such as flash, light capturing equipment, tripods, and selfie sticks are used. For artifacts that visitors may not take photographs and/or video recordings of, prohibition signs will be in place.
      When taking photographs and/or video recordings, visitors may not impede traffic flow and/or violate the safety and/or viewing rights of other visitors.
      Visitors who are taking photographs and/or video recordings for commercial or other special purposes must file an application in advance.
    6. Visitors are required to abide by the regulations set forth in this notice, and follow the instructions given by the Museum staff. Any violation of the following rules will result in warnings, stopping of behavior/act, denial of admission, and/or dismissal from the museum.

      (i) Dangerous items, food, liquid, bottles, and cans are strictly prohibited inside the exhibition halls.
      (ii) Guided tours without the audio touring system are strictly prohibited (unless authorized otherwise) to maintain the peace within the exhibition halls.
      (iii) Visitors who fail to comply with Rule No. 5 when taking photographs and/or video recordings.
      (iv) Visitors should keep their voices low and not talk loudly or cause nuisance to other visitors.
      (v) Visitors should not run, play, eat and drink, smoke, lie on seats, sit on the floor, take off their shoes, and littering.
      (vi) Pets (except guide dogs), oversized items, and toys are prohibited inside the exhibition halls.
      (vii) Visitors are asked to dress appropriately when entering into the Museum.
      (viii) Backpacks, travel bags, and luggage (portable objects larger than A3 paper) must be deposited at the museum checkroom. The NPM is required to check the contents of these items when necessary.
      (ix) Any other persons considered by the Museum to pose threats to artifact safety or order inside the museum are prohibited from entering the exhibition halls.
  • The National Palace Museum Group Audio Touring System Booking Guidelines

    (Announced on Jun. 1, 2009 and Modified on Dec. 01, 2014)

    1. Starting Sep. 1, 2013, groups visiting the National Palace Museum are required to book the Group Audio Touring System online prior to their visit. Travel agencies and tourist guides are also asked to use the online Group Audio Touring System(Chinese) booking service to make reservations in advance. Regular visitors may book by calling our service hotline at 886-2-2883-3172 / 886-2-2883-3277 / 886-2-2883-3200.
    2. The online booking service is open 24 hours a day.
      The available booking slots are as follows:
      8:30 a.m. ~ 10:00 a.m. / 10:00 a.m. ~ 11:30 a.m. / 11:30 a.m. ~ 1:00 p.m. / 1:00 p.m. ~ 3:00 p.m. / 3:00 p.m. ~ 4:30 p.m. / 4:30 p.m. ~ 6:00 p.m.
    3. Group Audio Touring System booking service for the following day is available until 3:00 p.m. Requests to cancel your booking should be made before 12:00 p.m. two days prior to the day before your visit.
    4. The maximum number of visitors allowed during each time slot is 2,500. Reservations are closed when the above number is reached. Groups without the Group Audio Touring System are prohibited from entering the exhibition halls.
    5. When the exhibition halls are fully occupied, visitors who did not make an advanced booking (hereafter referred to as non-booking visitors) are required to wait in line for the Group Audio Tour Systems to be returned by the previous group before the new group is allowed to enter.
    6. The NPM will hold the visiting time slot for the pre-booking visitors for a maximum of 20 minutes should they fail to show up by the reserved time. After the 30-minute grace period, non-booking visitors will take their place in order.
    7. As the NPM visitor count increases annually, museum visitors are asked to book early in advance. Travel agencies who make tour reservations shall lose their reservation rights for a period of one month if they have three or more tour groups who fail to show up.
    8. The Group Audio Touring Systems must be returned together (as a set and in the way they were originally rented).
    9. Please strictly follow the above guidelines to ensure the overall quality of your visit. We sincerely thank you for your cooperation.
  • Checkroom Regulations

    1. The checkroom (open: 9:00am to 5:00pm) is not responsible for any loss or damage.
    2. Please retrieve your checked items before 5:00pm on your day of visit. If you do not retrieve your items, the Museum will keep them for seven days, after which they will be sent to the Taipei City Police Department, Shilin Police District.
    3. Valuables, dangerous and forbidden objects, animals and perishable items are not allowed to be checked.
    4. If the user of the locker breaks the locker or other associated facilities, he or she will be held responsible.
    5. The Museum is not responsible for lost or broken items in the checkroom in the following situations:
      (1) Misuse of the checkroom or loss of keys.
      (2) Natural disasters and other unpreventable situations.
      (3) Confiscation by governmental agencies.
    6. Please take caution with the keys. There is a NT1000 charge for lost keys.
