The Museum began to train foreign volunteers.
Special exhibitions of the aesthetic beauty of calligraphy, the calligraphic works of Wang Chong, Ming and Qing Dynasty fan painting and calligraphy, and the paintings of Lu Chih were held, and catalogues were simultaneously published.
1993
The Executive Yuan ratified the by-laws regulating the work of the Museum.
The "Conference on the Poetry, Painting and Calligraphy of Chang Dai-chien and Pu Hsin-yu" was held.
Special exhibitions of Shang Dynasty bronze inscriptions, the incense burners through the dynasties, the calligraphy of Dong Qichang, and Songhua inkstones were held, and catalogues were simultaneously published.
The exhibition "Monet et les Impressionnistes au Musee Marmottan" was held.
1994
The Museum organized the exhibition "Great National Treasures of China" at the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts.
Special exhibitions of Tibetan Buddhist implements and calligraphic works of the Yun-chien School were held, and catalogues were simultaneously published.
The interactive CD-ROM "Five Millennia of Chinese Art: Images of a Spiritual Journey" was released, and the compilation of "Qing Archival Materials on Taiwan" began.
1995
The fourth phase of the Museum's expansion and the construction of the Zhide Garden were completed.
The Museum began providing audio guided tour service in Chinese, English and Japanese.
Special exhibitions of circular jade objects, illustrations of "The Lotus Sutra", the auspicious juyi scepters, and bird-and-flower paintings of Lu Ji were held, and catalogues were simultaneously published.
The loan presentations of "Famous Paintings of the XVI-XIX Centuries from the Louvre Museum" and "Collectors' Exhibition of Archaic Chinese Jades" were staged.
1996
The Museum's exhibition "Splendors of Imperial China" traveled to The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Asian Art in San Francisco and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
Special exhibitions of porcelains with auspicious designs, Taoist paintings and furniture paintings were held, and catalogues were simultaneously published.
The permanent exhibitions of gilt bronze Buddhist statues and the history of the book in China were showcased.
1997
The installation of the Chinese and English web sites was completed.
The island-wide exhibition "One Hundred Treasures of the National Palace Museum" was organized, and a catalogue was published to accompany the show. A separate exposition entitled "The Beauty of Chinese Art" was put together to travel to Taiwan's youth detention centers.
Special exhibitions of archaic and pictorial jades of the Qing Dynasty court, paintings of the theme of Zhong Kui, ancient ink stones and painting of Wang Yuanqi were held, and catalogues were simultaneously published.
Two loan exhibitions were held: one of religious sculpture, entitled "The Art of Contemplation", and the other of diplomatic documents in the Qing Dynasty.
1998
Co-organized with the Tamkang University the first "Conference on the Research of Chinese Documentation"
The exhibition "Memoire d'Empire: Tresors du Musee National du Palais, Taipei", was held in Paris, France.
A special exhibition of Ming Dynasty Xuande porcelains was held, and a catalogue was simultaneously published.
The loan exhibitions of Western paintings and sculpture highlighting the theme of women and of the art of Chang Dai-chien and Pablo Picasso were organized.
1999
A traveling exhibition of the Museum's finest reproductions was sent to Central America.
With the cooperation of the Soochow University, the project of constructing a full-text and image retrieval system for the "Encyclopedia Collected from Sources Old and New (Gujin Tushu Jicheng)", was initiated.
A series of cultural and educational programs was organized after Taiwan being hit by a major earthquake on September 21.
Special exhibitions of Ming and Qing Dynasty enamel wares and the landscape painting tradition of Li Ch'eng (916-967) and Kuo Hsi were held, and catalogues were simultaneously published.
Several loan exhibitions were held, including archaeological finds from the Sanxingdui site in Szechwan, Han artifacts from the collections of various museums in Kwangtung, jade objects collected by local connoisseurs, the paintings of Yang San-Lang and historical documents on Macao.
2000
Tu Cheng-Sheng became the Museum's Director.
Institutionalization was promoted and guidelines regulating the promotion of the professional staff were enacted. All other relevant rules and regulations governing the employment and promotion of non-professional staff were revised as well.
Small academic discussions were held, where members of the professional staff periodically presented the results of their research.
The Museum was invited to participate in the exhibition "Taoism and the Arts of China" jointly organized by the Art Institute of Chicago and the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco.
The "National Palace Museum Research Quarterly" underwent revision.
German, French and Spanish versions of the Museum's web pages went online.
A special exhibition of jade objects acquired by the Museum over the years was held, which was accompanied by a conference on related issues.
Special exhibitions of paintings in the ruled-line format, art of the Song Dynasty, Jun ware and images of Guanyin (the Goddess of Mercy) were held, and catalogues were simultaneously published.
Two loan exhibitions were held: one of images of children in Western art and the other of cultural relics from the Mongolian steppes.
2001
An expansion project entitled "The National Palace Museum in the New Century" was initiated, outlining the prospects of development for the Museum in the 21st century.
The regulations governing the administration of the Museum's Collection Development Fund was approved by the Legislature.
The interior of the Museum's lobby renovated.
The revised "National Palace Museum Newsletter" began publication.
The Museum donated NT$1,000,000 from the staff's Welfare Fund to Salvadoran earthquake relief, and held the "921: Warmth of Humanity" charity sale, donating the proceeds of NT$1,000,000 to rebuild the homes in the disaster area.
A new series of the domestic exhibition "One Hundred Treasures of the National Palace Museum" was put together, and a catalogue was published.
Four conferences were held: "Representations of the Literary Mind: the Theme of Poetry and Literature in Chinese Art", "Qing Archives and the Study of the History of Taiwan", "Age of the Great Khan: Pluralism in Chinese Art and Culture under the Mongols" and "Rare Books of the Song and Yuan Dynasties".
Special exhibitions of the art of painting and calligraphy of Lu Chih, paintings of Chinese festivals, collectanea and encyclopedias, calligraphic works and seal carvings of Wang Wang Chuang-Wei, the themes of poetry and literature in Chinese art, famous historical figures of Taiwan, Western Zhou bronze inscriptions, selections of Ming Dynasty calligraphy, insect paintings, Neolithic jades from the Yellow River valley, Qing Dynasty calligraphy, art and culture of the Yuan Dynasty, and bird paintings held.
Three loan exhibitions were held on the works of Salvador Dali, the paintings of Li Mei-Shu, and oracle bones. The reciprocal exhibition "From Poussin to Cezanne: 300 Years of French Painting" was held at the Museum.
