Organizations

The National Palace Museum Organization Regulation was promulgated on December 31, 1986 and implemented on January 16, 1987. In conjunction with the government's organizational downsizing principle and in response to the requirement of operational development, the Regulation was renamed National Palace Museum Organization Act in 2007 and promulgated pursuant to Executive Order Hua-Zong-Yi-Yi-Tze No. 09700003961 dated January 16, 2008.

1. Organization

In accordance with National Palace Museum Organization Act and the administrative guidelines, National Palace Museum has one director, two deputy directors and one executive secretary managing 7 departments and 5 offices, including Department of General Planning, Department of Antiquities, Department of Painting, Calligraphy, Rare Books and Historical Documents, Department of Registration and Conservation, Department of Marketing Services, Department of Exhibition Services, Department of the Southern Branch Museum Affairs, as well as Office of Digital Information Services, Secretariat and General Affairs Office, Human Resources Office, Budget, Accounting and Statistics Office and Civil Service Ethics Office.

Current Organization and Tasks

2. Responsibilities

The administrative guidelines for National Palace Museum were promulgated by the Executive Yuan on March 13, 2008, and further amended on August 14, 2023. The responsibilities of the departments and offices are defined as follows:

a. Responsibilities of the Department of General Planning include the following:

  1. Policy guidelines, mid-range and annual administrative plans, important measures and policies, organizational system review, innovation and reform research, coordination and planning;
  2. Inter-museum cooperation and exchange as well as resource sharing, evaluation and integration;
  3. Research and evaluation, legislative affairs and public relations;
  4. Library services;
  5. Other matters concerning general planning.

b. Responsibilities of the Department of Antiquities include the following:

  1. Collecting, management, study, and cataloging of antiquities;
  2. Planning and arrangement of exhibitions of antiquities, and compiling and editing related catalogs and publications;
  3. International/domestic academic exchange relating to the collection of antiquities;
  4. Preparation and implementation of acquisition projects;
  5. Other matters concerning the collection of antiquities.

c. Responsibilities of the Department of Painting, Calligraphy, Rare Books and Historical Documents include the following:

  1. Collecting, management, study and cataloging of paintings, calligraphic works, rare books, and historical documents;
  2. Planning and arrangement of exhibitions of paintings, calligraphic works, rare books, and historical documents, and compiling and editing of related catalogs and publications;
  3. International/domestic academic exchange relating to the collection of paintings, calligraphic works, rare books, and historical documents;.
  4. Preparation and implementation of acquisition projects;
  5. Other matters concerning the collection of paintings, calligraphic works, rare books, and historical documents.

d. Responsibilities of the Department of Registration and Conservation include the following:

  1. Registration of collections and acquisition of artifacts;
  2. Preventive preservation, conservation, and scientific study of collections;
  3. Planning, implementation and management of museum security at the Northern Branch, and protection, disaster prevention, and rescue measures;
  4. Training, management, supervision and performance evaluation of security personnel at the Northern Branch, as well as coordination and liaison with precinct police and military police authorities;
  5. Other matters concerning registration, preservation, and security management.

e. Responsibilities of the Department of Marketing Services include the following:

  1. Publication development, production and distribution;
  2. Derivative use and creative value enhancement of collections, development and distribution of products, as well as management and licensing of intellectual property rights and remedial measures against intellectual property right infringements;
  3. Product sales management, implementation and management of operations of the Museum's Cultural Development Fund;
  4. Other matters concerning marketing.

f. Responsibilities of the Department of Exhibition Services include the following:

  1. Visitor services and educational outreach activities at the Northern Branch, as well as the training and management of docents;
  2. Gallery design at the Northern Branch, as well as the management and maintenance of related facilities;
  3. Management and maintenance of gallery security at the Northern Branch;
  4. Other matters concerning exhibition services.

g. Responsibilities of the Department of the Southern Branch Museum Affairs include the following:

  1. Collecting, management, study and cataloging of artifacts of the Southern Branch;
  2. Preservation, maintenance, and acquisition of artifacts for the Southern Branch;
  3. Planning and implementation of educational and promotional activities, visitor services, as well as training and management of docents for the Southern Branch;
  4. Planning, implementation and management of museum security at the Southern Branch, and protection, disaster prevention, and rescue measures;
  5. Planning and implementation of overall operation, administrative management, and construction of facilities at the Southern Branch;
  6. Other matters concerning the Southern Branch Museum.

h. Responsibilities of the Office of Digital Information Services include the following:

  1. Planning, establishment, management, and maintenance of information infrastructure;
  2. Planning, establishment, management, and maintenance of information application systems;
  3. Research, development, and promotion of innovative application models of information technology;
  4. Planning and promotion of information security;
  5. Other matters concerning digital information services.

i. Responsibilities of the Secretariat and General Affairs Office include:

  1. Clerical services, seal/imprimatur, cashier, construction and maintenance of facilities, procurement, miscellaneous, property management;
  2. Matters not covered by other departments and offices.

j. The Human Resources Office is responsible for matters related to human resources.

k. The Budget, Accounting and Statistics Office is responsible for budgetary, accounting, and statistical matters.

l. The Civil Service Ethics Office is responsible for matters related to government ethics.
