Facets of Authority: A Special Exhibition of Imperial Portraits from the Nanxun Hall (in Chinese)

Portraits of Emperors and Queens in the Nanxun Hall has been housed in the imperial palace artifact collection over the course of Chinese history. The portraits authentically, carefully, and neatly display items such as the court apparel worn by emperors and queens, apparel accessories, emperors' chairs, and carpet. The emperors, who may be seen sitting or standing, were masterfully drawn in full body or half body portraits using a wealth of colors, making them precious data for studying history and apparel. Since 1989, the National Palace Museum has published 32 volumes of Illustrated Catalog of Painting and Calligraphy in the National Palace Museum. Said illustrated catalogues do not include Portraits of Emperors and Queens in the Nanxun Hall because of the lack of high-resolution graphic files. Accordingly, Catalogue of Portraits of Emperors and Queens in the Nanxun Hall was proofread and published to provide readers with important data for studying Chinese figure paintings and to showcase the completeness of National Palace Museum's artifact collection.
