Educational outreach

  • Diversity and inclusion are universal values, and cultural rights should be accessible to all people regardless of their races, languages spoken, genders, places of residence, and socioeconomic statuses. For many years, the NPM has organized a wide range of educational programs with diverse characteristics, offering learning content tailored to the different needs of different communities. Through exhibition themes and thoughtfully designed spaces, the NPM provides opportunities for people of different age and gender groups to engage in open dialogues and mutual understanding. These initiatives advocate for a social environment in which artistic values are shared and where culture demonstrates its power of inclusion.

  • Art Companionship Program

Launched in 2018, the NPM Art Companionship Program places the NPM’s collection as its core, integrating its digital experiences with its physical learning resources. Through collaboration with professionals from multiple disciplines and cultural backgrounds, the program offers creative educational activities. Participants are guided to explore connections between history and contemporary life through diverse experiences such as artistic handicraft activities, guided tours, drama performances, music creation, science experiments, orientation and puzzle-solving activities, and career exploration workshops. These activities encourage the participants to create their own unique interpretations of NPM artifacts. The program serves a wide range of groups, including teachers and students from rural areas, remote areas, and offshore island schools; local community members; individuals in correctional education institutions; students in alternative education schools; and youths in foster care institutions. • Inclusive Access: Students with Disabilities Visit the Northern Branch

To safeguard the rights of students with disabilities to participate in cultural life, recreational, and leisure activities, the NPM introduces the “Inclusive Access: Students with Disabilities Visit the Northern Branch” program. The program, which is open to special education schools and classes in central and northern Taiwan, provides practical support such as accessible transportation and designs engaging one-day visit itineraries that connect the NPM with other accessible sites in northern Taiwan. These experiences encourage students with disabilities to engage in art and cultural activities while enriching their aesthetic experiences and artistic appreciation.

To serve special education students who may have difficulty traveling long distances, the NPM has extended the “Beyond Barriers and Touching Beauty” program to service also special education schools, combining artifacts from the NPM’s collection with local cultural and historical resources to design multisensory educational activities. These efforts also involve collaborative course lesson plan development with teachers. Through participation by special education students and individuals with disabilities from nearby communities, the program activates their sensory perception, increases their interest in museums, and deepens their understanding of local cultural characteristics. The goal is to promote equal access to cultural and educational resources for people with disabilities across Taiwan.

  • One World, One Family

Taiwan is an island enriched by the integration of diverse ethnic communities. To help new immigrants adapt to life in Taiwan, the NPM has long collaborated with both government agencies and NGOs, serving as a cultural platform for intercultural exchange. For example, in 2020, the NPM organized guided visits and art creation workshops that introduced new immigrants to traditional culture. Through two-way interaction and participation in these activities, new residents are able to integrate more fully into life in Taiwan while deepening their cultural understanding.
