Introduction

Through mythological tales, people have imagined how the universe came into being and how it functions—seeking to understand their place in the cosmos and establish order in both nature and society. Even today, we still turn to the supernatural when facing the unknown.

Through Gods Among Us: Immersive in the NPM Digital Exhibition, the National Palace Museum (NPM) invites you to journey back to the age when myths were born—to witness how divine beings shaped the rules of the cosmos and bestowed divine legitimacy upon social institutions.

These stories span the realms of nature and humanity, connecting life and death, ritual and ethics. As beliefs and practices have changed, so too have the images and meanings of these deities—guiding us through everyday life and helping us find direction amid chaos.

The exhibition begins with myth-inspired artifacts from the National Palace Museum collection and unfolds through immersive environments, augmented reality, and interactive experiences. In Creation of the Cosmos, visitors encounter the primordial chaos and the emergence of yin and yang. Deities Take Their Posts explores how gods became embedded in natural and political order. Gods in the Celestial Bureaucracy shows how divine beings were integrated into official systems. At Home and Beyond reveals the flexible presence of deities in everyday life. And finally, Divine Calendars reveals how, in our time, deities become entwined with our lived experience, through the rituals and rhythms of annual festivals.

Gods Among Us: Immersive in the NPM Digital Exhibition moves between ancient narratives and contemporary perspectives, seeking the possibilities where order and creativity coexist. Here, myth is no longer a distant symbol—it becomes a source of inspiration for navigating an uncertain future.
