The National Palace Museum Take the Lead Among Taiwan’s Museums in Offering Tax Refund Services to Foreign Visitors

The National Palace Museum is further enhancing its visitor-friendly services! In a bid to provide more convenient tax refund services for foreign tourists, starting from October 17, 2023, the National Palace Museum is taking the lead among museums across Taiwan by establishing tax refund service counters at its physical stores in both the North and South Museum areas (the B1 gift shop and 2nd-floor Tingyun Bookstore at  the NPM in Taipei, as well as the gift shop at the Southern Branch of the NPM in Chiayi County). These counters will assist international travelers in processing tax refund procedures.

The National Palace Museum has stated that, with the steady growth of international tourists post-pandemic, it has applied to become a designated business entity with museum stores, as approved by the Taipei National Taxation Bureau of the Ministry of Finance. Starting from October 17 this year, tax refund services for international travelers will be facilitated through the airport and port tax refund method. This pioneering museum service represents the National Palace Museum's commitment to expanding the international traveler market and actively creating an international-friendly tourism environment, thereby promoting high-quality cultural and tourism experiences in Taiwan.

In accordance with regulations from the Ministry of Finance, foreign travelers, who spend NTD 2,000 or more on taxable goods at one single authorized TRS-labeled store on the same day, are eligible to show their entry document to the shop assistant on the purchase date to request for the tax refund form. They can then proceed to the dedicated tax refund counter at the airport when departing to process their tax refund.
